Modest rents beside modest incomes
The median household income in the Bundaberg council area was $1,157 a week at the 2021 Census, below $1,675 across Queensland. Set the median weekly rent against it, counting all households and not only renters, and the rent equals 25% of that income, above 22% across Queensland. The comparison is worked out on this page from the two medians, not taken from the Census, and it suggests lower rents here still sit a little heavier against local incomes.
Owning outright is common: 40% of households owned their home with nothing left to pay, above 29% across Queensland, and 28% were paying off a mortgage, below 34%. People tended to stay put too, with 52% of those aged five and over living at the same address five years earlier, above 48% statewide.
Three-bedroom houses and an older population
The Bundaberg council area is a place of separate houses, at 85% of occupied homes against 75% across Queensland, with flats or apartments at 6%. The three-bedroom home is the familiar size: 45% of homes had three bedrooms, above 37% statewide, while 31% had four or more, below 39%. The people are older than the state's, with a median age of 47 years against 38. In all, 99,215 people lived in the Bundaberg council area at the 2021 Census.
